Personal growth is a combination of both physical and mental development. Mind Body Defense creates a balanced class which is not only physically and mentally demanding but also empowering. The goal is to promote independence through interdependence. Each student works their best and in doing so assists their classmates/partners. This allows every student to reach their highest understanding and performance while creating an engaging, encouraging, and educational experience every class.
Both the kickboxing and self-defense programs follow the Tetra-T developmental process of techniques, tactics, training, and transformation. Techniques are the moves (punches, kicks, movements, etc.) taught. Tactics is the reasoning behind the use of each technique, such as how to protect your space, which combination to throw, and how to survive after being stunned are examples of tactics. Training involves the drills that develop the reflexes you will apply in and out of class. The training occurs when the techniques and tactics are used in a realistic/combative situation. The transformation is the change that the student undergoes. A transformation can be an increase in flexibility which allows a student to learn a new kick (technique) and repeat the process. Another transformation can be an increase in confidence which allows the student to learn a new set of boxing combinations (techniques) and repeat the process.
The Tetra-T process is continuous. The student will always have more to learn from the class and about themselves. Since every student develops in different ways and at different times, the class is progressive and individualized so each student is working at their level. Ultimately, each student is an active member of the class at all times.
